In the fourth chapter of his epistle to the A Philippians, the Apostle Paul recorded his thanks to them for a generous gift of money. He emphasized, however, that the importance of the gift was its symbol of their love for him. Then, urging them to look to God for all substance, he said, "My God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus."
This statement is an unequivocal, positive, direct declaration. It does not contain a fragment of evasiveness or ambiguity. It was not uttered for the enlightenment of a certain historical period or for the benefit of a specific group of people. It is a proclamation that is true for eternity and is applicable today to all human needs. These needs are met through a correct understanding of the relationship of God and His idea, man.
Until one learns, through Christian Science, that God is the giver of good alone, one may entertain the false, personal concept of Jehovah which is described in certain parts of the Old Testament of the Bible. This unillumined approach to the relationship of God and man is often accompanied by one's helpless submission to the belief that God will cure the ills of men and satisfy their needs if it be His will or that His bounty will be withheld if for some reason He wishes to mete out punishment.
