I wish to express gratitude for many...

From the March 1960 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I wish to express gratitude for many blessings received through the study of Christian Science and to tell of an experience we had when our children were small. We were living in the country, and late one Sunday afternoon, as was our custom, my husband, our four children, and I went to the home of my mother, who lived nearby.

After an early supper the children were playing in the barn, which was then being used as a garage and a chicken house. Suddenly we heard screams. I ran out to a side porch which looked toward the barn. I could see the children coming. They were leading one of our little daughters, who was then three years old, and her face and hair were covered with a white powder. Then I heard someone cry out: "It's the lime. It will burn her eyes!"

I was momentarily paralyzed with fear. I was conscious they were carrying the child into the house, but I could not move until I heard one of my brothers at the telephone, calling a doctor and urging him to hurry. Then I became alert and said: "We don't need a doctor. We don't need anyone. God is right here." Instantly I was free from all fear, and during the rest of the experience I did not fear or doubt again.
