As long as there is one thought in consciousness which is inconsistent with God's bestowal of good on man, we are not to that degree demonstrating our true nature as God's reflection. God declared man to be good in the beginning, and He has not retreated, nor can He ever retreat from that declaration. Why, then, should we back away from strict acceptance of God's provision of good for us? Alluding to the account in the first chapter of Genesis, Mrs. Eddy says (Science and Health, p. 537), "Creation is there represented as spiritual, entire, and good."
The man that God made never fell. Each one of us today is in reality the perfect image of God just as he was in the beginning. The claim that man fell is a presentment of mortal belief only. In the measure that one accepts the counterfeit state of being—or, may we say, mortal dream of being—as true, he is deluded by that which is out of harmony with man's true identity. Christian Science shows us how to demonstrate our true nature and, as a consequence, to enjoy happier days, purer lives, improved well-being.
All that makes us suffer from sin or disease is our failure to accept and demonstrate our wholeness as God made us. We assume, for example, that we are material. We then think we must live consistently with fleshly beliefs. As a result we suffer the effects of those beliefs. But we can progressively and beneficially acknowledge our spiritual being, which has never changed, that being which is created and eternally sustained by God.
