"EASTER OBSERVANCES"

From the April 1960 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The Christian Scientist realizes great inspiration, encouragement, and strength from the daily observance of Easter. Although he does not celebrate the day with special material ceremonies, Easter observance is constantly a vital part of his thought and activity. It is a joyous recognition of the power of Truth over error, Love over hate, and Life over death. The Easter message is the eternality of Life. For the Christian Scientist, this should be a daily demonstration.

In the Manual of The Mother Church, Mrs. Eddy writes under the topic "Easter Observances" (Art. XVII, Sect. 2): "Gratitude and love should abide in every heart each day of all the years. Those sacred words of our beloved Master, 'Let the dead bury their dead,' and 'Follow thou me,' appeal to daily Christian endeavors for the living whereby to exemplify our risen Lord." In this provision in the Manual, the Christian Scientist finds a new unfoldment of Easter as a daily opportunity for resurrecting and spiritualizing his thought through gratitude, love, and consistent effort to follow the Master in his everyday living.

Gratitude and love naturally accompany each other. When we love, we more readily express gratitude and appreciation. In their spiritual sense, gratitude and love are healing elements of the Christ-consciousness. The heart in which they abide has right action.
