"Things which are seen were not made of things which do appear" (Hebr. 11:3). In this statement the writer of Hebrews clearly implied that what the material senses perceive is but the counterfeit of a purely spiritual conception, which dwells in the realm of divine Mind, God.
The understanding of the true, spiritual nature of all things was the basis of the life-work of Christ Jesus. "He plunged beneath the material surface of things, and found the spiritual cause," states our Leader in Science and Health (p. 313).
Many things in our human experience plainly point to the unreliability of the material senses. Sky and water seem to meet in a seascape; railroad tracks apparently converge in the distance; and we imagine that we see water, trees, and buildings in a mirage. These are things that falsely appear to be real.
