MAN'S PURPOSE AND PLACE

From the April 1960 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Man, according to the teachings of Christian Science, exists at the standpoint of opportunity. There is a divine purpose for each one of God's ideas, a usefulness that contributes to the full expression of God's unlimited abilities and capacities.

Human limitations were set at naught by Christ Jesus. He passed untouched, and perhaps unseen, through the midst of those who sought to destroy him; he appeared to the disciples, who had gathered within closed doors. He was able to feed thousands of people with only a few loaves and fishes because he understood the infinite capacities of God, the divine Mind, and man's reflection of this Mind. To such scientific understanding, plenty takes the place of want, health of sickness, and security of danger.

God has endowed man with qualities such as integrity, alertness, and intelligence. They are of unlimited value to mankind and are needed in the home, in the office, in church, indeed everywhere. Because these qualities emanate from God, the all-knowing and all-acting divine Mind, they cannot be suppressed or retarded. But they can be claimed and expressed by each individual who accepts the truth that man is God's reflection.
