In 1940 I married a Christian Scientist. I was greatly impressed with the serenity and calm which she expressed, but I failed to associate these qualities with Christian Science until about two years later when we were expecting our first child.
One evening there was evidence that a miscarriage was taking place, and I urged my wife to have immediate medical attention. She explained to me that this would be impossible, because it was necessary for her to rely radically on God. Although I was fearful for her safety, I sensed the great importance of this decision to her and agreed that she should depend entirely on Christian Science.
With the consecrated help of a practitioner, a complete healing took place in a matter of days, and several months later a boy was delivered in a normal, harmonious way. This healing impressed me so much that I began to attend Christian Science lectures, Sunday services in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, to study the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
