After my first healing in Christian Science, I was convinced that God's healing power is just as available today as it was during the era of Christ Jesus and his early followers. A doctor had previously diagnosed my case as an abnormal condition characterized by a decreased amount of sugar in the blood and had placed me on a very strict diet, which I followed carefully for one year. Because I had always enjoyed excellent health, it was the doctor's assumption that I could overcome this illness by a correction in diet. However, my condition grew steadily worse, and he recommended an operation.
From early childhood I had a horror of the thought of surgery, and even the suggestion of an operation made me more fearful and discouraged. In desperation I visited a Christian Science Reading Room for the first time. The librarian lovingly assured me that I could be healed in Christian Science and referred me to a list of practitioners in the Journal.
I made an appointment and visited a practitioner. That evening I returned home, and for the first time in a year I enjoyed a substantial dinner. That night I disposed of four different bottles of vitamins which I had been taking, and within three days I disposed of another kind of medicine I had daily found necessary to take.
