TRUE safety can never be achieved by material means. There is no material place which, either in location or size, is safe or invulnerable. We begin to grasp this fact as we learn in Christian Science that matter, whether seemingly good or bad, is in reality but a mental phenomenon, a fluctuating, unsubstantial manifestation of mortal mind, which can neither help nor harm us. This Science teaches that safety can be achieved only as we stop thinking from the basis of mortal mind, with its counterfeit universe of material persons and things, and perceive the real man and real universe, which are spiritual, perfect, and eternally safe.
God is the real man's dwelling place. The Bible tells us, "In him we live, and move, and have our being" (Acts 17:28). God, being All, knows nothing but His own all-inclusive oneness; He is aware of nothing but the totality of His own being. No sense of harm or danger, then, can possibly exist in the divine consciousness, for there is nothing external to God that can enter and disturb the eternal harmony of the divine nature.
The real, spiritual man—your true individuality and mine—lives in divine Love. Man, being the reflection of the one Spirit, is made of the very substance of Spirit and is therefore inseparable from God. Obviously, then, God's endless harmony and perfection must also be man's by reflection. God being the only Mind, the only intelligence of man and the universe, man can have no personal mind with which to know evil or danger. These are the absolute facts of God and man, and Christian Science shows us how to apply them to what appear as dangerous human situations.
