Until I was led into Christian Science by one who, like a good Samaritan, saw my need, had compassion on me, and supported me in my search for the truth, the Bible was literally and metaphorically a closed book to me. It is reason for gratitude to have had the treasures of the Bible unlocked and to have gained the wonderful assurance that God is man's Life.
For over twenty-five years Science has been my physician and sure comforter. I have had many instances of guidance, protection, and healing through the understanding of this religion, which was revealed by our Leader, and I am grateful to have proved that trials do make our faith stronger the trials becoming joyous opportunities rather than burdens.
Once, while touring, after having driven all night and into the next day, I suffered from a severe attack of migraine on my arrival at my hotel. I allowed myself to think that with rest and sleep I would recover. I retired to my room and tried to sleep, but in vain. I could not find rest. Then these words from the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, came to my thought (p. 218) "The consciousness of truth rests us more than hours of repose in unconsciousness." I realized that I must face the condition and heal myself by denying its reality in the light of God's allness instead of relying on sleep.
