Testimonies of Healing

At one time many years ago when I was...

From the April 1961 issue of The Christian Science Journal

At one time many years ago when I was new in the study of Christian Science, I found myself quite unable to renew my quarterly subscription to the Christian Science publications. However, on dwelling upon these words of Mrs. Eddy in the Manual of The Mother Church (Art. VIII, Sect. 14), "It shall be the privilege and duty of every member, who can afford it, to subscribe for the periodicals which are the organs of this Church," I felt quite convinced that since I was a student of this Science, I should be able to fulfill the obligation because of the understanding of true substance which Science gives.

That evening as I left the Wednesday testimony meeting at a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, someone whom I had previously helped put a pound note into my hand, and this, I felt, was my supply with which to pay the subscription. I paid the cost of renewal, not knowing where the next amount for daily expenses would come from. But it is not too much to say that from that day on I have never lacked supply in any direction, and my needs began to be met in a variety of unexpected ways.

Shortly after this, an experienced Scientist said to me that all Christian Scientists should want to visit the headquarters of the Christian Science movement in Boston and that it was not money that was needed to get there but the unfolding of a spiritual idea. His words made a deep impression on me, and I cherished them, knowing that a right idea furnishes the seed for its own unfoldment.
