HOW TO DEAL WITH ERRONEOUS BELIEFS

From the April 1961 issue of The Christian Science Journal

HUMANITY continually seeks to possess that which is real, that which is. Frequently this seeking is impelled by a desire for a perfect physical body. However, to possess or enjoy what is real and enduring one must start from the basis of Mind, Spirit, God. And Christian Science instructs us how to start from this basis.

In Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, following remarks regarding the fact that materiality is shut out from God's presence, this statement appears (p. 543): "The great verities of existence are never excluded by falsity."

Let us note the word "verities" and perceive its significance. One definition of "verity" is "quality or state of being true, or real." It becomes evident that man, the image and likeness of God, reflects "the great verities of existence," and the recognition of this fact is actually what mankind is reaching for. In Science and Health we are taught to look away from matter, to behold the glorious things of Spirit, and to experience the happiness of Soul. Just as every intelligent individual can understand and utilize the verities of mathematical knowledge, so he can awaken to the satisfying possibility of possessing an understanding of "the great verities of existence."
