Having lived near a Church of Christ, Scientist, since early childhood, it seems as if I had always known of Christian Science. Many of our neighbors were Christian Scientists, and through them I grew to respect and love the teachings of this religion.
Because of Christian Science my whole life has been changed for the better. Many years ago, before I became an earnest student, I read the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, in times of stress. Once when a dentist gave me a distressing report concerning the condition of my gums, I read this book and the difficulty was overcome. That was many years ago, and there has been no recurrence of it.
Through the years of the depression which began in 1929, I clung to the statement found on page 494 of Science and Health, which reads, "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." I was the only one in our family of three earning a salary during those years, but our needs were met.
