My first healing took place over twenty-one years ago. I had been ill for about six years with malaria and had been told that I would always have to take certain prescribed medicines. It was necessary to stay in bed much of the time, and when I was not too ill I spent most of my time reading.
I first read Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy merely from curiosity, having found it in the public library. The first chapter, entitled "Prayer," presented a wonderfully new concept of prayer and of God as near and understandable.
Over a period of a few weeks I read the textbook through several times, trying to understand more of it, but with no thought that it might heal me. Soon I realized that some of the main symptoms of the condition had disappeared and that I had not been taking the medicine for some time. Before very long I was able to accept employment and to resume normal activities, including swimming and horseback riding.
