"What hast thou in the house?"

II Kings 4: 1-7

From the April 1961 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Supply is oneness with the fountainhead.
Streams stagnate only for the want of flow.
The widow's oil appeared inadequate
To meet her need until obedience
Revealed man's God-derived ability
By active use of what she had at hand.

This active receptivity comprised
The secret of the widow's oil. When poured
With confidence and right expectancy
It filled the empty vessels, one by one,
Till not a vessel yet remained unfilled
Of all she owned or borrowed. Ample source
Provided for the oil's abundancy
In orderly equivalence with need.

Thus after all our present want is filled,
The rich outpouring ever calls for more
Receiving space. Exhaustless Love maintains
Truth's constant flow in every open heart.
"What hast thou in the house?" A living stream,
When consciousness pours forth its golden oil.
