THE MOTHER CHURCH AND ITS BRANCHES

From the October 1962 issue of The Christian Science Journal

There was a time, of course, when Mrs. Eddy was the only Christian Scientist in the world. The spirit of Truth and Love animated her, preparing her thought to receive a divine revelation that is of incalculable value to the whole world. This discovery revealed to her the fact that divine Principle is the creative and governing intelligence of all that actually exists, and she established Christian Science upon this scientific basis.

Students who have a degree of spiritual discernment see that this prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled in the Science Mrs. Eddy discovered and founded (52: 10): "The Lord hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God."

There must have been times when the task of sharing her discovery with the world seemed more than she could fulfill. But the spiritual idea kept her thought poised in the realization that perfection and completeness constitute spiritual creation. She had to take innumerable steps to formulate her discovery and present it accurately, but as these steps unfolded to her she took each one with the assurance that she was being divinely guided.
