A RIGHT SENSE OF SYMPATHY

From the October 1962 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Our sympathies must be correctly based if we would further world peace and contribute our best efforts to mankind's moral and spiritual betterment.

A right sense of sympathy is always in agreement with divine Principle. It is always opposed to all that is evil. Mrs. Eddy states this truth clearly on page 14 of "Christian Healing": "Metaphysical or divine Science reveals the Principle and method of perfection,—how to attain a mind in harmony with God, in sympathy with all that is right and opposed to all that is wrong, and a body governed by this mind."

Christian Science reveals that Principle is God, infinite Spirit, or Mind, and that man is God's image and likeness. Therefore instead of being what he appears to be, an imperfect corporeal being subject to sin, disease, and death, man is the spiritual idea of God, perfect, spiritual, and eternally harmonious. He is neither subject to disease nor vulnerable to evil influences. Because these facts are in contradistinction to common belief, however, they must be individually understood and demonstrated in human experience.
