Today there is an urgent call for every student of Christian Science to use his spiritual understanding to protect himself, his home, his church, and his community from aggressive suggestions of evil which are claiming to be present, powerful, and active.
Mrs. Eddy writes on page 71 of Science and Health: "Nothing is real and eternal, —nothing is Spirit,—but God and His idea. Evil has no reality. It is neither person, place, nor thing, but is simply a belief, an illusion of material sense." Only as we fully accept this statement shall we remain calm in the midst of seeming danger, tranquil when all around is turmoil, serene in spite of bad news, quiet and confident when material sense argues for fear and despair. With the understanding that man is at one with divine Mind as its reflection, which we are taught in Christian Science, we are able to silence the testimony of the material senses.
How grateful we can be to know the truth of God and man; that man is not material, but spiritual; that he is immortal, being ever at one with God as His perfect likeness! We rejoice to know that God is man's Life. When we have once glimpsed the spiritual facts of being and seen that God is the only creator, we have begun to overcome the belief of death, the belief that life has a beginning and an end. The spiritual understanding of God's allness protects and delivers us from dangerous or adverse circumstances.
