At a time when my husband and I were building our house and furnishing it with antiques, we answered an advertisement in the paper inserted by a woman who was a dealer in antiques. One evening, when we were in her home looking at some old glass, we noticed a full-length portrait of a lovely woman. Something about her so attracted us that we asked who she was, and we were told that it was Mary Baker Eddy.
From then on, we talked about Christian Science on our visits to the dealer, and one night she asked us where our twin sons were going to Sunday School. We explained that after attending an orthodox Sunday School for several years, they had suddenly refused to go any longer. She offered to pick them up on Sunday morning and take them to the Christian Science Sunday School; but my husband said that he would take them himself, and he did. Ever since then my own understanding of Christian Science has been illumined through the help of what the boys have been taught in the Sunday School.
Many Bible verses and truths stated by Mrs. Eddy have not been unlocked for me until I have pondered them for some time. A Bible verse that long remained meaningless to me is the one in Isaiah which reads (2:22), "Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils: for wherein is he to be accounted of?" Then one day when I had a severe cold, I picked up a copy of the Christian Science Sentinel and read an explanation of the verse which so enlightened my thinking that I enjoyed some physical relief immediately.
