"Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled" (Matt. 5:6) was Jesus' assurance, and his words certainly have been proved true in my experience.
From the time I was a child I had been seeking the meaning and purpose of existence. A feeling of insecurity and a lack of right environment and companionship were evidenced in an unhappy disposition and recurring ill health. I attended the churches of various Christian denominations, but their teachings failed to satisfy my longing for spiritual truth.
One evening a friend invited me to attend a Wednesday testimony meeting in a Church of Christ, Scientist, and later I borrowed a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. The apparently miraculous nature of the healings recounted at the Wednesday meetings and recorded in the literature filled me with wonder. Could such things be true when anything so remarkable usually became headline news? Here it seemed was the pearl of great price, valuable beyond all expectation. But I felt I must prove the truth of Christian Science before I could accept it wholeheartedly.
