It was my privilege to attend the Christian Science Sunday School from the time I was four years old until the age of twenty and to be encouraged at home to turn to God, "a very present help in trouble," as the Bible tells us He is (Ps. 46:1).
In my high school years a painful growth on the sole of my right foot and another on my left heel tested my reliance on Truth. Because of the growths I was excused from all phases of the physical education program, with the strong recommendation that I resort to surgery for correction of the difficulty. During a period of three years I asked for and received help through prayer from several Christian Science practitioners at different times, and although the condition was temporarily relieved, it was not permanently healed.
After graduation from high school, I left home to continue my education in another city. When I enrolled and started classes the condition was very painful. I could not wear shoes with high heels, and I was walking with a limp.
