I was first healed in Christian Science as an infant when my family was living in the tropics. I had been unable to retain food and was losing weight rapidly; but through the help of a Christian Science practitioner the healing came quickly.
After returning to the United States, my mother persevered in her study of Christian Science. Severe winters in the Northwest never deterred her from attending church and taking my sisters and me to Sunday School. The Christian Science hymns, especially those by our Leader, became familiar to us; and when Mother sang them to us in time of need, we were comforted and healed.
We had been living comfortably when suddenly Mother was left to rear three little girls alone. There were times when it was not apparent where our daily supply was coming from. But by now, through our Sunday School training and Mother's saintly example, we were learning to depend directly on God for our supply, and the needs were always met. Mother often quoted with assurance our Leader's words, "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health, p. 494).
