"BE IT SLOW OR FAST"

From the October 1963 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Mrs. Eddy wrote a poem entitled "Mother's New Year Gift to the Little Children" and one entitled "To the Big Children." These verses are to be found on page 69 of Poems by our Leader. The title of this article comes from the verse written for "the Big Children"—which could mean every student of Christian Science—and reads as follows:

Father-Mother good, lovingly
Thee I seek,—
Patient, meek,
In the way Thou hast,—
Be it slow or fast,
Up to Thee.

Often we long to have our search for God go faster and be more immediately successful. It seems hard, sometimes, to be patient, meek, and sincerely willing to let God's way be our way. And yet our faithful Leader, whose own search for God took her to the mount of revelation through long years of patient woe and tribulation, as well as joyous discovery, bids us be God-directed no matter how slow the pace or how long the way may seem to be.
