"WORK OUT YOUR OWN SALVATION"

From the October 1963 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The dominant hope in world thought today is for salvation—deliverance from the evils that threaten to engulf mankind. The present world problems growing out of fear, hate, suspicion, unbridled ambition, and the like, are simply the numerical magnification of the same problems inherent in every mortal. When a single individual, by yielding his human will to the will of God, has destroyed these discords in his own consciousness, he has not only saved himself from destructive error, but has made a tangible contribution to world salvation. Thus a gradual spiritual awakening in the minds of all men will at last lead to the universal demonstration of God's will on earth.

This full salvation, this spiritual regeneration of mankind, is the mission of Christian Science. This Science directs its redeeming message to the individual—to every person with a listening ear, a receptive heart, and the will to work for his own salvation. An earnest student of this Science meets these requirements. In his study and practice, he strives to follow the leadings of the divine Mind, which is God, in all his activities, having learned that health, harmony, and success are spiritual and that the way to gain them lies within consciousness.

Through the multiplication of this one modest example of virtue and love thousands of times around the earth, Christian Science is progressively fulfilling its God-given assignment of world salvation.
