Because of a desire to learn something about the religion of my fiance, I began to read the Christian Science textbook by Mrs. Eddy. I had been happy in the orthodox church in which I had been reared and grateful for the love expressed there, but I had many questions which its teachings had not answered. I was immediately impressed with the beauty and logic of Christian Science, and one by one I found all my questions answered. I was soon an earnest student. Since that time, which is over thirteen years ago, I have relied wholly and completely on Christian Science to meet every need. Our family has had many proofs of the healing power of this truth. The births of two children were harmonious and beautiful experiences as a result of the Christian Science treatment I had.
Our son, when about two years old, became very ill with what appeared to be pneumonia. My husband was away on a business trip, and I was alone with the child. I was almost overwhelmed by fear. I asked a Christian Science practitioner to help us through prayer, and he reminded me that God is man's real Father and Mother and assured me that I could place the child in His care.
During the third night the boy seemed to be seriously ill, and I humbly asked God to show me what to do. I took the Bible, which fell open to the third chapter of Daniel. I read the account of the deliverance of the three Hebrews from the fiery furnace and was greatly inspired by their courage and their stand for God. These words from Science and Health were also very encouraging (p. 393): "Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man."
