LESSONS FROM MILITARY SERVICE

From the November 1963 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The opportunities to learn spiritual lessons through Christian Science while in the Armed Forces can, if utilized, make one's military service a period of lasting accomplishment. These lessons may be applied to one's entire human experience with much gain.

The rapid pace of progress required in the armed services demands that we be adaptable. Seldom does one have a better opportunity to prove the presence and permanence of true spiritual equanimity than when he is serving as a trainee. Going into the Army in the Second World War, I obtained great help from considering part of the first stanza of Hymn No. 148 in the Christian Science Hymnal,

In heavenly Love abiding,
No change my heart shall fear;
And safe is such confiding,
For nothing changes here.
