WOOING THE WEARY WANDERER

From the November 1963 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Have we ever stopped to consider how much thought and time our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, devoted to communing with God, divine Love, that He might show her how to meet the spiritual needs of her fellowmen? Each step she took in the establishment of her Church, its government, the Bible Lessons in the Christian Science Quarterly, The Christian Science Board of Lectureship, and the periodicals, including The Christian Science Monitor, points to the infinite care with which she followed the leadings of God, divine Mind, in presenting to humanity the Christ, Truth, as found in Christian Science.

In "Miscellaneous Writings," Mrs. Eddy asks (p. 176): "Are we duly aware of our own great opportunities and responsibilities? Are we prepared to meet and improve them, to act up to the acme of divine energy wherewith we are armored?" She adds, "Never was there a more solemn and imperious call than God makes to us all, right here, for fervent devotion and an absolute consecration to the greatest and holiest of all causes."

How much prayerful thought are we giving to being led by divine wisdom to reach out to our community and attract the stranger into our church? If ever we cease to reach out to bless those upon whom our thoughts rest, our sense of the availability of God's ever-present law may be dimmed. Our spiritual understanding of the real man's perfection must include all the variations of God's expression. To the degree we awaken to the unity of our true individuality with God as His reflection, we understand that the true individuality of our fellowmen is also at one with God. This understanding will help the members of a community to be attracted by the divine influence of scientific Christianity.
