PEACE, NOT PRESSURE

From the November 1963 issue of The Christian Science Journal

We hear and read a great deal these days about the pressures of modern living. Medical science believes that these pressures are the cause of many malfunctions of the human body. Through the study of Christian Science, one can find out how to eliminate this sense of pressure and the disorders which are believed to result from it. This Science points out that one can rely on God and thus be relieved of a false, personal sense of responsibility and of any doubt that he is able to cope with any situation in which he finds himself. It leads one to an understanding of God and shows him how to employ that understanding in solving human problems.

Most Christians agree that God has the power to bless mankind. Christian Science brings out that because of God's unchanging, loving nature He not only can bless mankind, but always has blessed and always will bless mankind. As one understands more and more of God's nature, this fact becomes increasingly apparent.

Fear, more than anything else, would keep one from trusting the power and love of God. It is obviously impossible to fear and trust at the same time, since these states of thought are opposites. All of us would like to have unlimited trust in God's goodness; so what is it that tries to prevent us from doing so? Where does this sense of fear come from?
