HEALING ONESELF

From the March 1963 issue of The Christian Science Journal

HEALING oneself through Christian Science is a practical means of speeding one's own success and well-being and at the same time contributing to the welfare of mankind. To heal oneself of disease, lack, sorrow, criticism, sensitiveness, and resentment, as well as of mistaken concepts of others, is to increase by that much the health, happiness, and success of home, community, and humanity. Thought and action based on the understanding of man's primal likeness to his creator, God, good, enable one to experience good, including good health.

To heal oneself presents a threefold opportunity: first, to acknowledge the goodness, presence, and available power of God; second, to understand that no one can be separated from His goodness, presence, and power; and third, to act consistently and confidently on the knowledge and understanding of the always-present coexistence of God and man.

In the Christian Science textbook, Mrs. Eddy writes (Science and Health, p. 167), "Our proportionate admission of the claims of good or of evil determines the harmony of our existence,—our health, our longevity, and our Christianity." A student of Christian Science discovered for herself how "admission of the claims of good" heals. She had been financially assisting a relative who was struggling with what seemed to be serious lack. The student prayed to God to show her the unreality of the distressing situation and how its unreality could be demonstrated.
