The mirror on the wall does not reveal
Identity. The human faces seen
Within the fragile looking glass conceal
The perfect man-inviolate, serene.
Divinely fair. Then do not crudely trace
Division lines of envy, malice, fear.
Or lust between your heart and mine. The face
Of man is Soul's reflection—pure and clear
And indivisible. Identity
Cannot be separated into Jew
And Gentile, male and female, bond and free.
When egotism disappears from view,
When brotherhood emerges from the maze
Of many minds, when self is sacrificed—
The sons of earth shall look with startled gaze
Into the mirrored countenance of Christ.
