THE END OF IGNORANCE

From the March 1963 issue of The Christian Science Journal

GENERALLY speaking, ignorance is not a desirable state of mind, for it implies a lack of knowledge of facts. But ignorance of God and His creation and ways is more disastrous than any other kind and has the most negative and far-reaching effect.

Ignorance characterizes the carnal, or mortal, mind, to which God is unknown. The Psalmist must have realized that spiritual ignorance keeps an individual on an animal level, for he confessed to God (Ps. 73:22), "So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee."

The Bible is a record of mankind's rising above ignorance of God and His works through the revelation of the truth of being. From beginning to end, the Scriptures unfold spiritual facts that are unseen to the physical senses. In the Bible we find true knowledge of God, of His man, His law, His kingdom, His infinite love. And we learn of the healing and transforming effects which such knowledge brings to human thought. Christian Science spiritually interprets the teachings of the Bible and significantly repeats its healing works.
