THE student of Christian Science early learns that Mrs. Eddy's restoration of the healing power established by Jesus came through her discovery that this Science of the Christ was based on the spiritual fact of perfect God and perfect man, coexistent and eternal. Numerous references throughout her writings point out this perfection. In Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 353): "All the real is eternal. Perfection underlies reality. Without perfection, nothing is wholly real. All things will continue to disappear, until perfection appears and reality is reached."
In a field such as mathematics one can quickly perceive that perfection is essential. If an individual were working to solve a problem in, let us say, trigonometry and he committed an error in his method, he would get a wrong answer. In order to arrive at the correct solution, he would require a perfect application of the rules of mathematics. Not only his understanding of the rules must be perfect, but also his utilization of them must be perfect.
In the fields of health and human relationships, however, one might ask, "Can I expect to find a rule for perfection applicable to the problems I find confronting me in these aspects of human experience?" Christian Science speedily answers in the affirmative. Both the Bible, with the teachings of Christ Jesus, and Science and Health, with its scientific explanations of Scripture by Mrs. Eddy, contain explicit rules and a definite method for the demonstrating of perfection in an ever-increasing measure, both in our relationships with others and in our own well-being.
