"I WILL COME AND HEAL HIM"

From the June 1963 issue of The Christian Science Journal

CHRIST JESUS had unquestioning confidence in God's power and its availability to meet every human need, to heal and loose mankind from bondage of every nature. He understood the allness, the ever-presence, of infinite divine Love. His constant communion with God enabled him to speak with authority to the claims imposed by material sense, which he saw to be fictitious. His realization of man's spiritual individuality as the reflection of God, ever harmonious and sinless, gave to him a true sense of safety and freedom from fear.

The Master's rebuke of wickedness was forceful and vigorous. He did not ignore evil. He denounced it as the devil, the opposite of God, and therefore as powerless and without real entity. It mattered not in what guise evil appeared, whether as limitation, disease, or the ultimate of a mortal sense of existence, death. He always gave loving assurance and proof of the superiority of divine law over every claim of intelligence, substance, or life in matter. His acknowledgment of God, Spirit, as the only cause and of man as His perfect image or representative was the basis from which he could, with full assurance of healing and liberation, respond without hesitancy to those earnestly seeking his ministry.

With what serene conviction he reassured the centurion who besought him to heal his servant! The Master's immediate and unqualified response to this appeal was (Matt. 8:7), "I will come and heal him." In the face of such vital and implicit trust in God, coupled with the humble faith of the centurion in the authority of the Christ, Truth, was it any wonder that the servant was healed in the same hour?
