Testimonies of Healing

When I became interested in Christian Science...

From the June 1963 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When I became interested in Christian Science, I had no particular faith in its power to heal and felt no need of physical healing; but I had always been very religious, and it appealed to me as practical instruction about God. I wondered why the words "Key to the Scriptures" appeared in the title of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy; but I was to find out, for it has certainly unlocked the Bible for me, and I now marvel at the simplicity of the great teachings which previously had seemed a mere compilation of words.

My first healing came during my college years. Before I left home to go away to college, I purchased my first copy of the textbook. The attendant in the Christian Science Reading Room where I bought it assured me I would find that the book had great blessings for me. This thought brought me much joy. Although I was attending a small Protestant college in a town where there was no Christian Science church, I read the textbook daily until I completed it. To my surprise, I found that I was on the honor roll at the college. This to me was wonderful, as learning had always been a slow and difficult process for me. Also, I had always been underweight and had a predisposition to take cold. I began to assume a weight normal to my stature and found that conditions which I had previously thought induced colds no longer affected me. I had indeed found the truth that makes us free, as Christ Jesus promised it would when he said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:32).

After this I began the study of Christian Science in earnest and have experienced continual spiritual unfoldment. Every physical difficulty I have had has been healed, my financial situation has improved, and human relationships have become much more harmonious. I have found that as I have overcome erroneous thinking about my fellowmen and myself, my life has improved in every way. I am also grateful for the harmonious birth of my child and for the opportunity of rearing him in Science.
