About three years ago, my husband and I were enjoying a short vacation in central Florida, writing and fishing. One day we put our boat into a creek, as usual. My husband went to the car to get the equipment, making several trips. While he was gone, I began to load the things into the boat. The second attempt to get out of the boat resulted in one foot's sinking about eighteen inches into the muck which had been covered by loose white sand during road building operations. The sinking threw me off balance with the boat slipping away from the shore. In my struggle to free myself I heard a loud crack and felt a severe pain in my hip joint.
I threw myself headlong into the water and managed to crawl out onto the creek bank. By this time, my husband had run back to me and was trying to help me stand. I kept clinging to the truth, declaring over and over that there are no accidents in God's perfect, spiritual kingdom. Somehow we managed to crawl up the steep bank to the car, and I lay on the back seat, still hanging on to all the truths of Christian Science that came to me.
We arrived at our lodge, some five miles distant, and before I got out of the car, my husband went into the house and called my teacher of Christian Science, who was some thousand miles distant. He assured my husband that God would sustain me, and we would know what to do and be able to do it. He promised to give me treatment, and with this reassurance I managed to get into the house and onto my bed.
