The power of God is unopposed, for God is All. The suggestion that there is an evil power must be opposed, or it becomes a seeming reality.
The Bible declares, "The Lord God omnipotent reigneth" (Rev. 19:6). The carnal, or mortal, mind parades evil before us in many forms, suggesting that good is powerless in many instances. If we do not challenge these suggestions with the truth of God's omnipotence, the suggestions become part of our thinking. When we do challenge them, expose them as illusions, we have with us the power of God to destroy evil. Mrs. Eddy says (Science and Health, p. 393): "Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man."
Whether it is a physical disease, a discordant situation in the home, or a misunderstanding between nations of the world, evil is powerless. But it will appear to have power to influence our lives, to cripple our bodies, to break our homes, and to throw our world into turmoil, insofar as its suggestions go unchallenged and unopposed. Christian Science teaches us how to detect evil and how to destroy it. The application of this Science restores health to the body, harmony to the home, and enables each of us to contribute substantially to the peace of the world.
