Testimonies of Healing

From the July 1964 issue of The Christian Science Journal

As I began preparing this testimony, the question, "What am I most grateful for?" presented itself. With great joy, the answer came, "For the absolute certainty that God is; that life, substance, and intelligence are spiritual, not material; that man in Science is indestructible and eternal."

This absolute certainty has been gained over a period of years during which there have been many battles with self. Prior to becoming interested in Christian Science, I was more or less an agnostic. I knew what God was not—that He was not anthropomorphic—but I did not know what God is. The only ego of which I could conceive was the human selfhood. I took pride in thinking that I exemplified self-reliance, self-discipline, and so on. I did not realize that there were other self's which were not so commendable, such as self-will and self-love. With humility I can now rejoice in a truer sense of selfhood, reflecting the qualities of the infinite, divine Principle, the Mind in whom we have our being.

In the eleven years since I have been a student of Christian Science, there have been many concrete proofs of the truth of Mrs. Eddy's discovery and of the efficacy of her teachings. The first healing I had was that of a nervous condition which had become so severe that I had not eaten or slept for a week. After an hour's visit with a practitioner, I was completely free from every symptom of the condition, including fear. In addition, I was able to complete, almost effortlessly, summer courses at a university, so uplifted was my thought.
