I should like to tell of two widely different experiences that have given me great confidence in trying times throughout the years. The first was a demonstration I had wanted to make myself: a test case. Previously I had always sought help in Christian Science from another.
I was a young man, alone in New York, where I had gone to enter my chosen profession. Things were not going too well for me; my funds were running low, and there was no work in sight. One afternoon I worked diligently to overcome this sense of frustration and self-pity which I felt especially on that day, because I was alone on my first birthday away from home.
The city offered much in the way of companionship, but fortunately it was not to my liking, and I determined to trust in God's guidance. I devoted the rest of the afternoon to a careful study of the Bible and the works of our Leader, and in silently praying for God's will to be manifested.
