When I first heard of Christian Science, I had confidence that it would help me with my problems in a practical way. I am grateful to have had the opportunity of attending the Christian Science Sunday School for several years in Germany and in England. My first Sunday School teacher was also a devoted practitioner, and her example in expressing genuine affection launched me firmly in Christian Science.
I am particularly grateful for a healing of a stomach disorder. About three years ago I became very ill, so much so that I lost considerable weight, could barely stand up straight, and had great difficulty in doing even the simplest housework. I had literally worried myself sick over a financial situation. Though endeavoring to help myself in Science, I grew steadily worse and had to give up my temporary job. In spite of my husband's urging that I seek help from a practitioner, I refused, thinking I still would be able to handle my own case.
However, I was well aware that our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, writes in Science and Health (p. 420): "If students do not readily heal themselves, they should early call an experienced Christian Scientist to aid them. If they are unwilling to do this for themselves, they need only to know that error cannot produce this unnatural reluctance."
