Testimonies of Healing

I have had so many proofs of the healing...

From the July 1965 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I have had so many proofs of the healing power of Christian Science that I find it difficult to single out a few to relate in one testimony.

One of the healings for which I am most grateful occurred during the premature birth of our second grandchild. The doctor pronounced the situation critical, and I had become burdened with a false sense of responsibility in caring for our tenmonth-old granddaughter as well as in doing prayerful work. When I asked for the help of a practitioner, he reminded me that this was a joyous occasion, and said, "Don't forget to be happy." This broke the mesmerism, and my household settled down with my settled thinking. The infant was born harmoniously soon after.

About eight months later this child, who was quite small for her age, developed a marblelike growth on the side of her neck. The application of the truth uncovered that we all had been holding her in our thought as being premature and delicate. Mrs. Eddy says in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 210), "Evil, uncovered, is self-destroyed." Within a month the growth opened through mental surgery and drained, and healing then took place. The child is now a normal, active, healthy seven-year-old.

About eleven years ago, my hair began to fall out. It had always been very thick; so until my hairdresser became alarmed, I paid little or no attention to the condition. Prescribing a series of treatments, he expressed the belief that I would be bald in a short time unless the condition was taken care of. I thanked him for his concern but refused his prescription.

When I reached home I began my own treatments in Christian Science, working with the statement in the Bible (Matt. 10:30), "The very hairs of your head are all numbered." I knew that I could not lose anything which was rightfully mine if I understood the spiritual fact that man possesses all good by reflection from God. The thought of hair symbolizing a crown came to me, and I found many helpful quotations in looking up the word "crown"' in the Concordances. One quotation, referring to Christians, reads (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 29), "If they keep the faith, they will have the crown of rejoicing."

In a very short time I knew the work was complete. My hair began to grow back as rapidly as it had fallen out. Now hairdressers invariably comment on the beauty, strength, and health of my hair.

Three years ago my husband's business necessitated our moving three thousand miles across the United States. This meant leaving a new home, family, and friends. Prayerful consideration had shown us that this was a right move, a step of progress, and the way Mind was directing.

Although neither of us had ever been in that part of the country before, we were confident that our home was already established and complete in Soul, spiritual consciousness. We were led to dispose of furnishings no longer needed, not knowing whether we would have a small or large place. One week after our arrival in the Northwest, we signed the papers for the purchase of a new house. When the furniture was moved in, there was a place for everything we had brought, and nothing was lacking. The movers said they had never before moved furniture into a house where everything fit so perfectly into place.

The one thing I am most grateful to Christian Science for is that it teaches us to see man as he really is: "The compound idea of infinite Spirit; the spiritual image and likeness of God; the full representation of Mind" (Science and Health, p. 591). Keeping this concept in my thoughts regarding all the members of my family has enabled me to overcome a false sense of motherhood, responsibility, and separation. This in turn has brought about closer human relationships. I am deeply grateful that my parents, our children and their families, are following the teachings of Truth.

It is a joy to continue serving in branch church activity where we make practical the Science of Christianity. Class instruction and the yearly association meeting are enabling me to understand and appreciate more and more the words and works of Christ Jesus. Science and Health has unlocked and illuminated the treasures in the Holy Bible, and for this my love for and appreciation of Mrs. Eddy increase with my progress.—
