After many years of only partway and part-time study of Christian Science, I went through a testing time with the sudden loss of my husband. In the consternation and grief of those hours, I reached out for something which could be relied on and decided to call on a practitioner for prayerful support. Almost immediately the sense of confusion was lifted to a great extent and replaced by a sudden certainty that man's true life can never be lost or separated from its origin, God, divine Life. The complete healing was not immediate, but the assurance of Love's ever-presence remained to guide many practical decisions in the weeks ahead.
The right new home was found; the question of how and where our youngest son should go to college was settled happily for all; and when haste and pressure were replaced with patient waiting upon God, the selling of the family business was accomplished under mutually helpful terms. One by one many other complex business problems were solved, and I found thoroughly gratifying work.
There remained to be proved in one more way that "trials are proofs of God's care" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 66). It was literally a trial—a lawsuit—which brought home this truth.
