About eleven years ago, when I began my study of Christian Science, the hostility of those around me toward it made it impossible for me to sing hymns, at least out loud, and this made me unhappy, for I felt I greatly needed to. Later, thanks to God, understanding having entered my home, Christian Science had its rightful place there, and I was able to sing at the top of my voice; this brought me great happiness.
One day as I was doing my housework and singing one of Mrs. Eddy's hymns, my husband suddenly came in and, interrupting, said, "You may pray to and thank your God, for I have just had beautiful proof of His protection."
In a voice touched with emotion he told me he had just fallen from the height of about two stories and had gotten up absolutely unhurt; even his glasses, which he had found beside him on the ground, were undamaged. He pointed out to me, however, that during the fall he had remembered to affirm the truth, declaring that God was with him. He was astounded at his protection, for he was carrying a load of about thirty-five pounds, which was in no way damaged.
