I want to express my sincere and unshakable gratitude for the direction and satisfying development that Christian Science is bringing into my young life and for the steadying influence of membership in The Mother Church, active participation in branch church work, and class instruction.
My own experience is, I think, one more example of how Christian Science changes for the better the lives of all who earnestly study the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," gratefully accept its author, Mary Baker Eddy, as the Discoverer and Founder of this scientific religion, and willingly give active obedience to the governing authority of our Church, the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy.
When I was two years old, my parents went as refugees from a city in eastern Germany to what is now West Germany. My baby sister and I were suffering from malnutrition in a severe form. My mother went one day for a CARE package of food for us, and while talking with a sergeant in the Army of the United States, a kind woman who sensed my mother's despair, my mother was encouraged to attend a Christian Science service and to enroll my sisters and me in the Christian Science Sunday School. From that time, pain, hunger, and hopelessness began to disappear from my childhood. So did the results of malnutrition and insecurity. My sisters and I grew up to be tall, straight, and healthy. We were able to obtain a sound education, and I now speak three languages, two of them fluently.
