One beautiful fall day while riding along...

From the October 1967 issue of The Christian Science Journal

One beautiful fall day while riding along the highway to visit a member of the family, I felt that the only way out of my troubles was to let the car wander off the road and crash, thus ending it all. I had many family and business worries and was a heavy drinker and a chain smoker. The roof seemed to be falling in, and I couldn't see my way out. For success in business I thought drinking was the type of entertainment needed to make the proper contacts. However, as I was riding along, something told me to carry on. I know now what it was, but at the time I did not.

I had been a pupil in a Christian Science Sunday School from the time I was three until I was of college age. In my junior and senior years of high school I wandered away from the teachings of my religion. I looked around and saw that others were getting along all right without Christian Science, so I asked myself why I should read and study as we are taught to do in our religion. A good time was all that mattered, and this attitude led on and on until I got in so deep I could not see my way out.

While visiting my relative, I told her all my troubles and she said: "You know, you were reared rightly, and God can heal you and help you with all your problems. Why don't you see a Christian Science practitioner?" I knew she was right the very instant she made this statement. This was the answer, and I could hardly wait until I got back to the city.
