A Sacred Trust

From the May 1967 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Moses said to the children of Israel: "Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord: and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: and thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children."Deut. 6:4-7;

In a world beset with claims of lawlessness and sensuousness, the spiritual education of young people is not only a sacred trust; it is a necessity for the preservation of a wholesome civilization. All around us there are spiritually starved young people, receptive to the moral and spiritual influence of Christian Science. Our responsibility is to draw them into the Sunday School, where they will be taught not only the fundamentals of this Science but also the use of its rules in their everyday lives.

On a memorable occasion Christ Jesus asked Peter, "Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me?"John 21:15; When Peter assured him that he did love him, the Master said, "Feed my lambs." We know that Jesus referred not to material food but to spiritual truths, which nourish and sustain mankind. This is the bread offered in the Christian Science Sunday School.
