Many years ago my mother was in great distress mentally and physically. She had three children and had been told by doctors that she was dying with heart disease. One lung was affected by incipient tuberculosis, and she was warned that her failing eyesight would last at most for another six months.
At this point a friend told her something of Christian Science and loaned her the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Mother began at once to read the book, and although she understood little at first of this "new tongue," she glimpsed, as she read, many comforting, uplifting, and satisfying truths, which encouraged her to acknowledge that this Science was founded upon a divine Principle. She became convinced that if any one statement in this book were true then the whole must be so, and she humbly prayed, as did the Psalmist (119:18), "Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law."
By the time Mother had finished that first reading of the textbook, she was well! Emptying the contents of her well-stocked medicine chest into the drain, she turned her back upon years of ill health and thereafter lived a full, active, joyous life, sharing with many others the redemptive Truth she had found and was now proving to be so effective.
