Testimonies of Healing

When my parents were first married...

From the June 1967 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When my parents were first married, they were well acquainted with a family in which the mother was a devout Christian Scientist. Dissatisfied with the practicality of their own religions and inspired by the example of this woman, they decided to adopt Christian Science as their family religion. Consequently, it was my great privilege to be reared in a home where the truths of Science were earnestly sought and faithfully applied, and each day of my life has been blessed because of my contact with these glorious truths. The healings have been many, and my experience has been guided in the path of harmony through the demonstration of the teachings of Christian Science. My heartfelt gratitude goes out to God for Mrs. Eddy and her immeasurable contribution to the modern age, given to the world through an endeavor of such magnitude that it could only have been inspired by the deepest love for mankind.

I should like to relate an experience which is very dear to me, both because it has brought me great joy and because it is proof of the power and purpose of Christian Science to unfold to us harmony, happiness, and abundance of life. In the early years of our marriage my husband and I were greatly disappointed that we had no children. Our childlessness was a crushing blow to me, for I had always wanted a family, and I felt thwarted and purposeless. Knowing, however, that our religion could provide the solution to any problem, I diligently applied myself to seeking a greater spiritual understanding. I consulted my teacher in Christian Science, and he encouraged me to be patient, but never to accept a sense of being thwarted and trying to live with it.

During the years that followed, I continued in my efforts to perceive better God's creation. The sense of unhappiness yielded, and I became joyous and content in letting God's plan replace human outlining. Many passages from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy were wonderfully helpful to me in increasing my understanding along these lines. I gained much from pondering this statement on pages 302 and 303: "Even in Christian Science, reproduction by Spirit's individual ideas is but the reflection of the creative power of the divine Principle of those ideas." The chapters entitled "Creation" and "Genesis" also were helpful to me.
