Last May a Christian Science lecturer and his wife took a perilous journey through jungle forests of a young African nation for the purpose of feeding more of Africa's spiritually hungry.
From the beginning, Mr. and Mrs. Geith A. Plimmer had found their Nigerian hosts a dignified and stately people. The opening lecture in Lagos attracted about four hundred and fifty, and Mr. Plimmer was immediately impressed by the Nigerians' grasp of Truth, which made him feel much at home with the audience. "There were hosts of questions afterward, all of them based on a simple yearning to find out how Christian Science could solve particular personal problems. . . . The validity of Science itself seemed never to be questioned. How to make it work was what concerned the eager questioners," Mr. Plimmer observed.
A rugged drive to Ibadan then took the pair through sheltering stretches of thick forest and afforded them fascinating glimpses of the color and activity of many villages dotting the route. This lecture drew about seventy-five, with fifty listening intently to the Yoruba translation. The sense of love and unity felt between lecturer and audience was so tangible that afterward one young Nigerian said warmly, "And now we want Mr. and Mrs. Plimmer to know that we accept them as members of our family."
