Transfiguration

From the April 1968 issue of The Christian Science Journal

According to a standard dictionary one meaning of the word "transfigure" is "to make glorious." When this is viewed in its relation to Christian Science, we see that transfiguration plays a large part in its healing ministry. Every genuine spiritual healing is based on some degree of transfiguration, on seeing something of the glorious nature of the real man. It is the result of looking through the mist of false material sense and beholding the divine idea embraced in Mind.

Christ Jesus' spiritual perception was so unclouded by error that he was able instantly to behold the real selfhood of his patient. His spiritual insight penetrated the counterfeit picture of disease and wiped it out, thus revealing the glorious harmony of real selfhood. Nothing that the material senses presented could fool him. He knew that material existence in all its phases is a dream, and he destroyed the specific instances of this dream, called disease, with consummate ease.

The secret of the Master's healing power lay in the fact that he consistently maintained the true sense of being, whether or not an immediate problem was presenting itself. He never allowed himself to be mesmerized by the dream of material living but kept the glory and perfection of God and the real man always in view.
