Noah "found grace."
Noah listened
and did as he was told:
Make an ark!
The heavier the rain, the higher,
the higher rose the ark.
It had a window,
a little window
measuring a cubit,
elbow to finger,
enough to see out of—
to watch those waters rise,
yet see them keep their distance
below the ark.
Depth upon depth broke loose
covering field and city.
Ark went up higher.
Higher, higher, higher!
Family preserved
with potential substance—
seed of all live creatures
assured to future generations.
And when rain stopped
in seventh month,
ark, pushed up and pushed up
in safety,
had come to rest
on mountaintop!
